University of Arizona Jazz Dance Showcase
This is an optional event for all of our dancers in the 7th grade or higher. The Arizona Jazz Dance Showcase (AJDS) is a dance festival hosted annually by The University of Arizona School of Dance.Designed for intermediate/advanced dancers. AJDS includes performances, a variety of dance classes, scholarship auditions for summer programs as well as an audition opportunity for the UA School of Dance for interested high school seniors.
Classes in a variety of dance techniques infuse the weekend with excitement and energy. With classes from Jazz Dance Technique/Style, Jazz Combo/Choreography and Master Classes in Jazz by featured Master Teachers, the AJDS provides jazz dance education at its best. An unusual menu class series allows the dancer to choose a technique class in either Ballet, Modern or Tap Dance.
On Friday afternoon, the optional Scholarship Class is a great chance for dancers to practice auditioning. Awards to summer dance programs, dance conventions, cash awards and other prizes give further value to participating in this enjoyable challenge. Take the chance. Put yourself out there!
Interested high school seniors can take advantage of the UA Dance Program Audition for dancers interested in majoring in dance at The University of Arizona. This is one of the UA School of Dance’s three national auditions held each year for the following year’s prospective freshman class. The audition includes ballet, modern and jazz dance techniques and will be followed by a Q&A with faculty advisers for dancers and their parents. Please note ALL the requirements that must be fulfilled BEFORE this on-campus audition. In the past several years we’ve had many students participate in this audition including Allie Gomes, Gwen Tessman and Jack Henderson. All 3 of these deserving dancers were admitted into the program and received a scholarship.
