Nutcracker Info and Cast List
Each year, Tiffany’s Dance Academy and ConDanza host a production of The Nutcracker. Over 400 dancers participate during the three shows at the Chabot College Performing Arts Theater in Hayward, CA. The performers are aged 5-18 and are supported by professional dancers from ConDanza in the lead roles.
The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the German folktale in which young Clara Stahlbaum’s favorite Christmas toy, a Nutcracker given to her by the mysterious Drosselmeyer, comes alive. After defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, the Nutcracker Prince takes Clara to a magical Kingdom populated by fairies and toys.
A copy of the Cast List can be downloaded by clicked here. To find where your dancer has been cast, open the document, then click on “Edit” and then “Find”. A search box should appear in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Type your dancer’s name into the box, and it will highlight your dancer’s name. You will also be able to see the location, day and time that your dancer will be rehearsing. When reviewing the cast list, please remember that DAN is Danville, LIV means Livermore, PLS is Pleasanton, SR is San Ramon, FRE is Fremont and SSF is South San Francisco and Milpitas is Milpitas.
To accept or decline the role(s) your dancer has been cast into, please click here to complete an online form. All dancers must accept their roles by Monday, September 3. If you have not accepted by that time we will assume you are declining the role and it will be recast. If the rehearsal class day and/or time that your dancer has been cast in does not work for your dancer, please reply to this email and we will help to recast your dancer into a rehearsal class that works with your schedule. Please remember that the Nutcracker is a character Ballet. That means that the majority of our dancers will be playing fantasy characters – Candy Canes, Lambs, Lolipops, etc. The larger roles in Snow and Waltz as well as the solos will be danced by our students who are in level Ballet 2 and higher.
Each dance will rehearse once a week. If you are rehearsing your dance in a regularly scheduled Ballet Technique class, your tuition will be based on your current class load. If you are cast in more than one piece, then you will have more than one rehearsal class. Rehearsal classes will begin the week of September 3rd. For our special solo/duo/trio roles, dances with 4 or more students rehearsing together will be charged at the normal tuition rate for that class ($72.00 per month for a 45 minute class and $74.00 per month for a 1 hour class). If you are cast in a Solo, Duet or Trio, your rehearsal schedule will vary from week to week. Solo, Duet and Trio rehearsals with 1-3 dancers rehearsing will be charged at a rate of $55 per hour and the cost will be divided equally among the dancers in the rehearsal.
We want this to be the best experience possible for your dancer. In order for that to happen, they must consistently come to rehearsals. They will only have approximately 12 rehearsals to learn their Nutcracker dances. Therefore, if your dancer misses more than 2 rehearsals, we reserve the right to remove them from their dance. If this occurs, or if you choose to leave at a later date, no refunds will be given on tuition, costumes or tickets, unless there is a verified medical reason for the dancer to leave the show.
Each dance will have a costume. If you are cast in more than one dance then you will have more than one costume. The costumes run between $75-$100. We will measure for costumes at your first or second rehearsal. Your costume order must be placed and paid for by September 15th.
There will be a mandatory Dress Rehearsal held at the Chabot College Theatre on Tuesday, December 11th (Act I) and/or Wednesday, December 12th (Act II). There will also be a run through for all dancers at the Livermore studio the weekend of December 1-2 as well as a picture day on Sunday, December 2.
Performances, December 14 & 15 – Chabot College
Our Nutcracker performances will take place on Friday, December 14th and Saturday, December 15th at the Chabot College Theatre in Hayward. Given the number of dancers who are interested in the Nutcracker, we expect that we will do one show on Friday evening and two shows on Saturday. Tickets will go on Sale November 7th. The ticket prices are still to be determined, but will similar to those for our Big Show recitals.
Of course we cannot do all of this without a little help from our friends. There will be a variety of volunteer jobs available – ushers, backstage volunteers, etc. As with our recitals, we will make tickets available to our volunteers one day early, on November 6th. We will begin volunteer registration in October.
Again, we are very excited that you have chosen to join us. If you have any questions please let us know.
