Creative Movement Comes to TDA

Creative Movement

Ballet: A theatrical representation of a story that is performed to music.

TDA’s Ballet School is moving into a new era. Under the direction of Ballet Director Steffon Long, TDA will offer Creative Movement classes for dancers of all ages. The Creative Movement classes are a fundamental element of ballet for younger dancers, teaching students to be aware of how their bodies move in relation to the whole body which helps a dancer develop a feeling for graceful lines.

Creative Movement provides students with a series of movement stories and ballet-based activities that appeal to dancers of all ages. The creative elements in each story enhances the development of fine and gross motor skills as they balance, skip, leap, coordinate, isolate and move to the music. Creative movement classes are ideal for children pursuing gymnastics, soccer, skating and other sports.

“For a dancer to truly learn the art of ballet, it is essential that they understand how the body works together,” said Steffon. “The Creative Movement classes will not only provide these elements for children at a young age, but make ballet a fun experience.”

Only teachers that receive Creative Movement certification by Steffon will teach these classes.
