Info:

Strap on your boots, this may be a long one!  We work very hard to ensure that the dress rehearsal process is enjoyable and stress-free; however, it is always the most difficult part of the show.  This may be the first “rehearsal” experience for many children and parents so there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself.

Please read the following to find out what time your dancer needs to be at dress rehearsal.  If your child is in only one show, make sure to locate his/her class day and time to confirm what time to come.

IMPORTANT: Dancers must arrive 20 minutes prior to their start time dressed and ready to perform.  With the exception of the first group of the afternoon; we need all dancers to remain in the audience until 5 minutes prior to the time for them to be backstage.  This will help alleviate congestion and confusion when groups are changing.  If you have more than one dance, come dressed in the first costume that will dance.  We sometimes run ahead of schedule, so don’t be late.  Make sure to allow time for afternoon traffic to Hayward.

Please note the definitions of the following key phrases:  All times specific to your child and group are contained in the next pages of this document.

  1. “Mandatory Arrive at Theater Time” – is the time to arrive at the theater.  As a rule you should arrive at the theater 20-30 minutes prior to your “Arrive Backstage” time.  When you arrive you may sit in the audience and watch the rehearsal until time to go backstage.  Remember that there is always traffic on 580/880 in the afternoons, which may cause a delay in your arrival.  If you cannot be there 30 minutes prior, due to school/work commitments, please just get there as soon as possible.
  1. “Mandatory Go Backstage Time” – is the time your child needs to be brought backstage to their appropriate waiting spot.  You will be directed to the appropriate room by signs and volunteers as you enter the backstage area.  IMPORTANT – It is extremely crucial to the overall well-being of dancers, parents, teachers and volunteers that you not enter the backstage area until 5 minutes prior to your “Arrive Backstage” time.  This is to avoid too many people in the backstage area, which leads to mass chaos and unwanted grey hair!
  1. “Actual Onstage Time Window” – is the time scheduled for that particular grouping of dances to rehearse onstage, with lighting, sound, and costume.  Your child may finish before the end of the group rehearsal time, depending on where they are in the line-up.  You may leave immediately following the completion of your child’s rehearsal.  This is NOT the time to ARRIVE at the theater.  Please give yourself a cushion of time.  Due to time constraints imposed by theater crew, we cannot wait for late dancers, and we cannot re-run dances if a dancer was missing.

*If you are unsure at any time, after reading this entire document, about when, how, where or why; please don’t hesitate to ask us.  We are here to help you understand the process, as well as ensure that you are properly informed.

Please find the name of your child’s dance and the correct day, time and location of your child’s weekly class.  You will then find the times to arrive, go backstage and approximate start and stop time.  We generally run really close to schedule, please don’t be late.  Please look over the list carefully, as some dances have 2 casts.  If you have any questions please call us immediately.
