Daddy Daughter Dance 2008

The Daddy/Daughter dance is a wonderful opportunity for Dad’s to spend quality time with their daughters.  They will learn a dance that will be performed during the June concert.  This dance is a challenge to manage from an administrative standpoint.  With over 250 couples in 23 different casts, it’s really important that participants are always aware of their responsibilities.

Please read the following information very carefully before committing to the Daddy/Daughter dance 2008.

1.   Great News!!! This year moms may register dads for the Daddy/Daughter dance!!! Register online or call (925) 447-5299 to register if you dance in Livermore.  In Pleasanton call (925) 417-0110. In South San Francisco, call (650) 871-6913 to register.  In Costa Mesa, call (949) 574-4905 to register.   In San Ramon call (925) 875-0103 to register. The non-refundable fee to participate is $79 (includes a free choreography dvd to assist with the learning process) and will be deducted automatically from your tuition account.  This fee is non-refundable, so moms, make sure the dad actually knows about the dance, rehearsal dates and times and is fully committed before signing up.  The proceeds from the Daddy/Daughter dance benefit Bay Area Dance Company.

2.   The Daddy/Daughter dance is great fun but it also involves lifting your daughter over your head, challenging choreography and several hours of rehearsals.  If you have back problems or other physical conditions that prohibit you from lifting the weight of your daughter over your head, please contact us before you sign up for the Daddy/Daughter dance.  To see photos of past performances, click here to go to our photographer's website.  You will want to look at any of the Tiffany Dance recitals.  The password is "dancestar" for 2006 and "shine678" for 2007. and the dance you want to look at is called "I'm Already There" for 2006, and "Then They Do" for 2007.

3.   There are a minimum of 6 rehearsals on the following (tentative) dates.

Livermoe, Pleasanton, San Ramon and SSF Dates: January 12th, February 23rd, March 8th, April 26th, May 3rd and a mandatory dress rehearsal a day or two before your recital

Costa Mesa Dates: Jan 12, Feb 9, March 8, April 5, May 3, May 31, June 21, and dress possible on 27th.  You may miss only one rehearsal (not the dress rehearsal) and you should try not to miss any of the last three rehearsals.  We realize that many dads travel out of town on business.  Unfortunately, we are unable to alter the rehearsal schedule to accommodate individual travel plans, illness, vacation etc…

4.   The rehearsal schedule is subject to change.  We try our hardest not to change the rehearsal schedule, but this is “showbiz” and circumstances beyond our control frequently cause schedule changes.  WARNING! Changes to the schedule may happen as few as 24 hours in advance.

5.   We will communicate with Daddy/Daughter participants via email only.  If you do not have email or if you never check your email, please do not register for the Daddy/Daughter dance.  You are required to check your email daily when you are a Daddy/Daughter participant.

6.   Dance is difficult.  It is a “team sport”.  Everybody on stage depends on everyone else to put on a great show.  At times it can be physically and mentally challenging.  It is essential that you understand that you may feel physically tired and frustrated at the same time.  At no time is it acceptable to voice your frustration to Tiffany or other TDA staff – that would be like complaining to a Marine Drill Sergeant during boot camp.  Remember, the Daddy/Daughter dance is an experience that will last a lifetime.  Spending time at rehearsal and working through difficult situations with your daughter is as significant as performing the actual dance.  Try to remember this important fact when you feel confused, frustrated and tired.

7.   All rehearsals are “Closed Rehearsals”, meaning Moms, friends and family may not watch the daddy daughter rehearsals.

8.   Dads must know and memorize the following information in order to be placed in the correct cast. This information will be given to you on or before your first rehearsal:

a.       What recital is your daughter in?

b.       What day is the recital?

c.       What date is the recital?

d.       What time is the recital?

e.       Where is the recital (physical location)?

f.        What is the name of the dance that your daughter is performing in her regular weekly class?

How do I sign up for the Daddy/Daughter Dance?  Moms, Dads (stepfathers, grandfathers, and/or other significant men in the dancer’s lives) please call (925) 447–5299 to be placed on the sign-up list...or register online.  We will begin taking sign-ups on August 21st.  Sign-ups will end in late January. There is important paperwork to read and sign before participating in the rehearsals.
